The Trump administration has decided not to allow victims of Hurricane Dorian who have arrived from the Bahamas to have temporary protected status. From NBC News:

The status would allow Bahamians to work and live in the U.S. until it is deemed safe to return home. The same status is currently granted to over 300,000 people living in the U.S. from 10 countries, including the victims of Haiti’s 2010 earthquake.

And while Bahamians can still travel to the U.S. with proper documents, they will not be allowed to work here.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said:

Let’s be clear: This decision is racist and cruel. We should grant Temporary Protected Status to Bahamians fleeing Hurricane Dorian. A Warren administration will reinstate TPS to protect refugees who are at risk in their home countries.

And Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) adds:

Racist. Heartless. Cruel. TPS status should be granted immediately. The moral vandalism of this administration is bottomless. We need a new president.
