It is natural to be impatient. But the wake of the filing of the Mueller report, as we await whatever (if any) details we are to get, patience is a key watchword. The wheels of justice grind slowly, and often in unexpected the ways.

As we patiently watch and wait, a few things to remember:

President Trump’s legal exposure extends beyond the Mueller investigation.  Mueller already has handed-off some cases to U.S. attorneys in the Southern District of New York.  Other investigations are underway by other state and federal offices.  Perhaps most important, various committees in Congress are investigating.  Mueller’s report, whatever it contains, probably lays out a “roadmap” for congressional investigators to follow.  This is what happened with the special prosecutor Leon Jaworski in the Watergate case against President Richard Nixon. The follow-up by Congress resulted in Nixon being forced from office, but it took time. Majority Republican and general public opinion did not turn against Nixon until congressional investigations got deep and well along.

So…take a deep breath, think “steady,” and say to yourself “patience.”

There is still a long way to go, with many twists, turns and bumps as our wild national ride rolls on.

President Trump, his family, aides and enablers have a right to feel relieved, since Mueller himself did no last-hour indictments. Already, some of the President’s supporters are claiming vindication and victory, and beginning to say versions of “told you so.”  Maybe they will prove to be entitled. But for this moment, as we wait and watch, that old saying, ”He’s not out of the woods yet” applies.
