Rudy Giuliani, the personal attorney for the president, is traveling soon to Kiev to ask the incoming government to look into campaign matters that will help his client. The New York Times writes:

“Mr. Giuliani’s plans create the remarkable scene of a lawyer for the president of the United States pressing a foreign government to pursue investigations that Mr. Trump’s allies hope could help him in his re-election campaign. And it comes after Mr. Trump spent more than half of his term facing questions about whether his 2016 campaign conspired with a foreign power.”

“We’re not meddling in an election, we’re meddling in an investigation, which we have a right to do,” Mr. Giuliani said in an interview on Thursday when asked about the parallel to the special counsel’s inquiry.

One matter relates to former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, who according to the Times, is someone Trump is trying to draw attention “to questions about the former vice president’s involvement in the removal of a Ukrainian prosecutor whose office had authority over investigations of the oligarch whose company paid Hunter Biden.”

Trump is also trying to stir up interest in the notion that Ukrainian officials tried to help Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016 by focusing on Paul Manafort’s business.

“We’re not meddling in an election, we’re meddling in an investigation … Somebody could say it’s improper.” – Rudy Giuliani to the New York Times

It’s unclear who is paying for Giuliani’s trip to Kiev. His meetings with the new president have not been formalized.
