President Trump has said he’s the authority when it comes to reopening the country. Here’s a headline for the White House. Governors on the east and west coasts are already banding together in their respective regions to do it themselves, despite the wishes of Donald Trump.
Governor Andrew Cuomo is leading a group of governors from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Delaware. The New York Times writes:
“Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York said that health and economic officials from the six states were starting work immediately on developing strategies for easing restrictions that have brought much of daily life to a halt.“
On the west coast, it’s governors from California, Oregon and Washington who have also joined together to discuss when and how to reopen their states. They’re calling it the Western States Pact. The New York Times writes:
“They said that while each state would have its own specific plan, the states would build out a West Coast strategy that would include how to control the virus in the future. “Our states will only be effective by working together,” they said in a joint statement.
“Gov. Gavin Newsom of California said on Monday that he had been in discussions with the other governors to coordinate efforts on the West Coast. He said that on Tuesday he would outline the “California-based thinking” on reopening and promised it would be guided by “facts,” “evidence” and “science.”
