We’ve reached the stage of the Mueller investigation where news organizations are staking out everyone involved, hence the rare picture of Robert Mueller arriving for work. The beltway press is in a frenzy because today could be the day the Mueller report is released. As CNN’s Brian Stelter noted, “we have reached the TMZ phase of the investigation.”

“This seems like one of those times when reporters know more than they can say. Are officials at the DOJ providing guidance about an expected timeline? Are well-placed legal sources standing by for news? Again, it seems that way, but I don’t know.”

As for one of the focuses of the investigation, Donald Trump all but threatened rebellion if the report is negative towards him.

Meanwhile, many Democrats on the hill are downplaying what will be in Mueller’s final report, saying it’s only the end of the beginning. From Politico:

“IF YOU TALK TO CAPITOL HILL DEMOCRATS PRIVATELY, you will hear something surprising about what they expect from ROBERT MUELLER: Many of them expect absolutely nothing. Several top Democratic lawmakers and aides tell us privately that they are certain the report will be a dud.

“IF THAT’S THE CASE, the White House will immediately make the argument that it’s time for Congress to shutter its investigations into the president. But Democratic probes into PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP are going to drag on regardless of the Mueller report. The committees are looking into things that have nothing to do with Russian interference — the president’s company, security clearances, handling of classified information, decision-making in the White House and Cabinet scandals, for example.”
