Today, with 91 days to go until the nation votes for the next president, Joe Biden is setting his sights on Latinos.

This comes just days after The Miami Herald published a story saying saying that the Biden campaign was “suppressing the Hispanic vote” in Central Florida. The story documented a “seven-page internal letter, obtained by the Miami Herald, contains eight allegations from field organizers about what they say is a lack of a ‘fully actionable field plan’ from the Biden campaign as it transitions into the Florida party to coordinate voter outreach efforts.

In a post published on Medium, Biden’s team wrote that “President Trump’s assault on Latino dignity started on the very first day of his campaign.”

The post reads:

On his first day in office, Biden will send to Congress a bill for legislative immigration reform that will modernize our immigration system and give nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants a roadmap to citizenship. Biden knows that we can secure our borders and uphold our laws in a way that is humane, just, and that establishes a rational set of rules for aspiring immigrants.

Biden says other changes include:

  • Investing in Latinos’ economic mobility.
  • Make far-reaching investments in ending health disparities by race.
  • Expand access to high-quality education and tackle racial inequity in our education system.
  • Combat hate crimes and gun violence.
  • Secure our values as a nation of immigrants.
  • Ensure that political appointees, including the President’s Cabinet, look like the country they serve, and ensure that our federal workforce is representative of the demographics in our country.

The Miami Herald reports “the campaign is pushing out its message for Biden and against Trump in battleground states including Florida through millions of dollars in political ads and virtual events intended to appeal to the various Latino communities around the country.”

One of Biden’s former competitors for the Democratic nomination, Julian Castro wrote, “The Latino community has been hurt by a global pandemic, an economic shock, and a president hell bent on attacking their humanity. Today @JoeBiden laid out an agenda to support Latinx families, address root causes of racial inequality, and turn back the bigotry of Donald Trump.”
