NBC News: Univ. of Michigan bows out of 2nd presidential debate and it’s moved to Miami
The second 2020 presidential debate this fall will be held in Miami instead of the University of Michigan, which originally planned to host it, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced Tuesday.
In a statement, the university’s president said: “Given the scale and complexity of the work we are undertaking to help assure a safe and healthy fall for our students, faculty and staff and limited visitors — and in consideration of the public health guidelines in our state as well as advice from our own experts — we feel it is not feasible for us to safely host the presidential debate as planned.”
It is with disappointment that I share @UMich will no longer serve as a 2020 Presidential debate host site. We look forward to continuing to provide programming that supports civic engagement & the spirit of democracy on campus & in our community this fall https://t.co/3RiTdqoIFX
