Time: Sen. Martha McSally, Pioneering Ex-Air Force Pilot, Says She Was Raped by Superior Officer
The Arizona Republican, a 26-year military veteran, made the disclosure at a Senate hearing on the armed services’ efforts to prevent sexual assaults and improve the response when they occur.
McSally admitted that she didn’t report her rape because she didn’t trust the system by which the U.S Air Force operated.
It would be better, of course, if those experiences led to more humane policy positions (and a tougher look at men in power who stand accused of sexual assault, like Kavanaugh, whose confirmation McSally supported). But things don't change overnight. This is a sign of progress.
