Michael Cohen is hoping a judge shows some mercy. The former Donald Trump attorney (“fixer”) is seven months into a three-year sentence, but now he’s asking for early release.

The New York Times writes Cohen’s letter “asked the court to allow him to serve the remainder of his sentence in home confinement.”

Michael D. Cohen says he has been left disbarred, financially crushed and personally embarrassed and humiliated after being sentenced to three years in prison for bank fraud and other crimes. He says he regrets that he thought “being Donald Trump’s lawyer made him a ‘big man.’”

Mr. Cohen wrote that he now realizes, as he walks the Otisville Camp paths, that he “in fact ‘sold his soul,’ and foolishly frittered away his integrity.”

CNN says Cohen’s attorney, Roger Adler, also “alleges the Justice Department has not treated Cohen in good faith.”

Cohen’s attorney suggests the Justice Department, under Barr, is biased against Cohen. “Attorney General William Barr has moved both publicly, and vigorously, to insure he is aligned with President Trump,” Adler said.
