Since it seemed like Donald Trump was having a lot of trouble filling the chief of staff position with an outsider, he decided to go with someone already employed in the White House. Mick Mulvaney, director of the Office of Management and Budget will reportedly be coming on board as acting White House chief of staff. Trump made the announcement on Twitter saying:

I am pleased to announce that Mick Mulvaney, Director of the Office of Management & Budget, will be named Acting White House Chief of Staff, replacing General John Kelly, who has served our Country with distinction. Mick has done an outstanding job while in the Administration.

I look forward to working with him in this new capacity as we continue to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! John will be staying until the end of the year. He is a GREAT PATRIOT and I want to personally thank him for his service!

Apparently, this news came as a shock to some people close to Mulvaney.

This came after several people reportedly turned down the job. The latest person to say thanks, but no thanks was Chris Christie. Earlier Friday he said, “I’ve told the president that now is not the right time for me or my family to undertake this serious assignment.” Nick Ayers, the Vice President’s chief of staff, also turned the job down last week.

No word on how long Mulvaney will stay on the job, but word is Trump was originally looking for someone who would make a two-year commitment.
