A just-released NPR/Marist poll shows President Biden is earning high praise from the American people for how he’s handling the COVID-19 response and the rollout of vaccines. Approximately two-thirds of those surveyed, 65%, say Biden is doing a good job of tackling the pandemic. That figure includes about one-third of Republicans.

However, the immigration issue is where the poll shows a problem for Biden. 53 percent disapprove of how he’s handling the situation at the border. That’s not just people on the right; it includes the majority of independents and 25% of Democrats. Some suggests that the nonstop drumbeat declaring the situation at the southwest border a “crisis” has succeeded in creating a problem for the White House.

The poll surveyed 1,309 adults by cellphones and landlines from March 22 to 25. It has a margin of error, plus or minus, of 3.4 percentage points.
