As former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort continues to cooperate with Robert Mueller’s team, he appeared in court today in a wheelchair. He was there to find out his sentencing date. NPR reports:

Manafort made a brief court appearance in Alexandria, Va., where Judge T.S. Ellis III also dismissed the 10 counts on which a jury deadlocked in Manafort’s bank and tax fraud trial earlier this year.

Manafort wore a green jail jumpsuit and sat in a wheelchair.

He has a “serious medical condition” related to his diet, a person close to him told NPR. The person asked not to be identified.

NBC adds:

Manafort’s defense attorney, Kevin Downing, told Judge T.S. Ellis that Manafort’s health has suffered as a result of his incarceration.

“We do think there are significant concerns with Mr. Manafort’s health and much of that has to do with the terms of Mr. Manafort’s confinement,” Downing said, though it was not immediately clear what ailment Manafort has suffered.

Reuters writes:

Prosecutors had initially favored waiting until Manafort finished cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election before addressing the remaining charges.

But U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis rejected the timetable so he could move forward with sentencing Manafort….

“I have not heard any estimation from the government of when his cooperation will be complete,” Ellis said, referring to the special counsel investigation. “I’m not willing to go on endlessly” before sentencing Manafort, he added.

Earlier this week CNN reported:

Ever since reaching a deal with special counsel Robert Mueller, Paul Manafort has kept the Russia prosecutors busy.

The former Trump campaign chairman and his lawyers have visited Mueller’s office in Washington at least nine times in the last four weeks, a strong indication that the special counsel is moving at a steady clip.
