Iconic, historic, “belongs in the Smithsonian,” those are just some of the things being said about the memorable photo that sparked the hashtag #PelosiownsTrump.

And we are still learning more about the story behind the picture. For one, what was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying to President Trump at the moment that now-famous photo?

The photo that shows her facing Trump and wagging her finger at him across a conference table, surrounded by men in suits, while Trump stares at her, open-mouthed.

At a news conference on Thursday, she told reporters: “I was probably saying, all roads lead to Putin.” Referring, of course, to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She said it moments before she and other Democratic leaders walked out on the meeting — and the president.

The irony is that we wouldn’t have seen the official White House photo were it not for Trump himself: he tweeted it, calling “Nervous Nancy’s unhinged meltdown.”

“However, ‘Nervous Nancy’ is not what a lot of people saw in the photo. Instead, they saw a lone woman standing up to a roomful of men, giving them a piece of her mind,” says Vox, noting that Trump’s “alpha-male bullying tactics just don’t work very well on women.”

And apparently people in the room didn’t see an unhinged Nancy either. CNN’s Jamie Gangel says she talked to a Republican in the room who said Trump “is not in control of himself.”
