Senator Patrick Leahy, the Senate president pro tempore, was taken the hospital late Tuesday. He was reportedly examined by a Capitol physician after saying he didn’t feel well. There is no information on what symptoms he was exhibiting. In a statement given to The Hill, David Carle, spokesman for the Vermont Senator said:

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Attending Physician recommended that he be taken to a local hospital for observation, where he is now, and where he is being evaluated.”

Late Tuesday, Leahy returned home.

Yesterday we learned Leahy would be presiding over Donald Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate. He was sworn in for this role just hours before being taken to the hospital.

Leahy is third in line in the order of presidential succession.
