Donald Trump’s tweets about how “No human being would want to live” in “disgusting,” “very poor,” “rodent infested” Baltimore has prompted some major backlash. One of the most fervent responses came from The Baltimore Sun’s Editorial Board. They wrote a piece that reads, in part:

While we would not sink to name-calling in the Trumpian manner — or ruefully point out that he failed to spell the congressman’s name correctly (it’s Cummings, not Cumming) — we would tell the most dishonest man to ever occupy the Oval Office, the mocker of war heroes, the gleeful grabber of women’s private parts, the serial bankrupter of businesses, the useful idiot of Vladimir Putin and the guy who insisted there are “good people” among murderous neo-Nazis that he’s still not fooling most Americans into believing he’s even slightly competent in his current post. Or that he possesses a scintilla of integrity. Better to have some vermin living in your neighborhood than to be one.

David Simon, the creator of The Wire, also once a writer at The Baltimore Sun. remarked:

If this empty-suit, race-hating fraud had to actually visit West Baltimore for five minutes and meet any of the American citizens who endure there, he’d wet himself.

Beto O’Rourke said:

In his words and in his actions, Trump has been the most openly racist president we’ve had in modern history. He is trying to change the very character of America. But we won’t let him. We are so much better than this intolerance and hatred—and together, we’re going to prove it.

#WeAreBaltimore is trending on Twitter as well with tens of thousands of people defending the city.

There were also several prominent people who simply pointed out some of the positive things about Baltimore.
