Grand Central on a normal day in New York is chaos. Add a thunderstorm, trees on the tracks and a full train stoppage. Welcome to sardine city. On a normal day, thousands of tourists visit the old station, hundreds of thousands travel to or from it. Today was a day to do none of the above.

For those who live west of the Hudson River, perhaps in a small town in the heart of America, it’s easy to look at these scenes and shake your head. Why would anyone want to be in the middle of that? Because, it gives us another reason to complain about the city we love.

It all began just as New Yorkers were racing for the exits, trying to beat a massive thunderstorm that raced across the city.
View from my office, the #storm that just unleashed on NYC. #GrandCentral was packed with angry people. …I made it to a bar safely, relax. …#TuesdayMayhem @NY1weather pic.twitter.com/CFAtADB5iP

The situation is similar to what happened in March when a nor’easter shut down the terminal forcing commuters to sleep in the station.
