Twitter was still buzzing Thursday morning about President Trump’s declaration of indifference to the thousands of migrants and asylum-seekers, including children, who are crammed into unsanitary holding facilities near the southern border.

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted, “If Illegal Immigrants are unhappy with the conditions in the quickly built or refitted detentions centers, just tell them not to come. All problems solved!”

That ignited a storm of tweeted fury against the president:

In a separate tweet, Trump insisted that despite what members of Congress call appalling conditions, “Many of these illegals … are living far better now than where they came from….”

“The President’s tweets come days after a group of Democratic members of Congress expressed outrage over the growing humanitarian crisis on the southern border following a tour of two Texas border facilities, describing squalid conditions, overcrowded facilities and thinly stretched resources,” reports CNN.

Some lawmakers quoted Border Patrol officers as telling thirsty migrants to drink from toilets.

CNN noted that Department of Homeland Security inspectors found “extreme overcrowding and children younger than 7 being held in custody for more than two weeks — far more than the allotted 72 hours — among other ‘urgent’ issues discovered … such as a lack of hot meals, inadequate access to showers and limited access to a change of clothes.”

None of which appears to bother Trump.
