For days, scientists and residents on Hawaii’s Big Island have watched and waited. The Kilauea volcano has seemed primed for an eruption. Then, earlier today a 5.0 magnitude earthquake hit the island and soon after, lava and smoke were seen pouring from the volcano. Local authorities ordered evacuations of one area. The US Geological Service confirms a lava eruption is underway
