There seem to be certain steps to these shady stories involving Donald Trump and his associates. At first, they call it fake news, then they deny it, then all of a sudden they basically say “so what if it happened?” That is the case with the urgent complaint from a whistleblower alleging Trump made a promise to a foreign leader. And it all evolved quickly over the last 24 hours. Thursday morning Trump tweeted “fake news,” later in the day it came out the call involved Ukraine’s president, then soon after the president’s attorney, Rudy Guliani, appeared on CNN. He first said the report was “erroneous,” but then the interview took a sharp turn as Giuliani admitted it happened.
Cuomo: Did you ask Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden?
Giuliani: No, actually I didn't.[literally 26 seconds later]
Cuomo: So you did ask Ukraine to look into Joe Biden?
Giuliani: Of course I did! pic.twitter.com/tuElM5P4og— Brian Tyler Cohen (@briantylercohen) September 20, 2019
One of many insane things about this Rudy appearance is how it's the quintessence of Trump administration defenses: "OK, what you're saying I did is TRUE. But it's Fake News because you're saying it like it's a BAD THING."
