People in Northern California were enjoying the popular Gilroy Garlic Festival when a man went a shooting rampage that left three dead and 15 others injured. Police shot and killed the attacker. Now they are looking for a potential accomplice.
Police Chief Scot Smithee said the gunman and a companion accessed the festival through a creek and cut through a perimeter fence to avoid metal detectors. Gilroy police did not know what motivated the shooter or how the second suspect may have been involved.
The barrage of shots that rang out in the final hour of the three-day festival sent attendees diving to the ground, crawling under tables, screaming in fear and sprinting for safety.

California Governor Gavin Newsom remarked:
This is nothing short of horrific… CA stands with the Gilroy community. My office is monitoring the situation closely. Grateful for the law enforcement’s efforts and their continued work as this situation develops.
California Senator Kamala Harris added:
Simply horrific. I’m grateful to the first responders who are on the scene in Gilroy, and my thoughts are with that community tonight. Our country has a gun violence epidemic that we cannot tolerate.
