Despite vaccine distribution finally ramping up, the daily death toll from coronavirus continues to go in the wrong direction. Tuesday marked another day of record deaths in the United States.

Jan 20, 2020: South Korea and United States each report its first case of COVID to WHO.

Jan 13, 2021: U.S. reports record-high single-day COVID deaths — 4,327 people.

380,821 US COVID deaths. Meanwhile, South Korea has reported 1,185 deaths … in the entirety of the pandemic.

ABC News has another comparison, this one with the flu points out that more people died in the U.S. of COVID in the past week alone than during the entirety of the last flu season.

There were an estimated 22,000 flu deaths nationwide during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The flu season was regarded as moderate and stretched out over several months. By contrast, there were 23,119 new COVID-19 deaths reported between Jan. 6-12, according to The COVID Tracking Project.
