One of the most memorable images today was the moment Kamala Harris officially became vice president. It is something that will be documented in history books for centuries to come. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor delivered the oath of office around 11:40am Wednesday morning.

Harris made history today on several counts. Senator Amy Klobuchar captured this during her opening remarks at the inauguration:

“We celebrate our first African-American, first Asian-American, and first woman vice president, Kamala Harris, who stands on the shoulders of so many on this platform, who have forged the way to this day. When she takes the oath of office, little girls and boys across the world will know that anything and everything is possible. And in the end, that is America.”

Politico writes that “she will be carrying the hopes, dreams, fears, stereotypes and expectations of every woman of color that has ever imagined a job in politics.” But today, Harris herself recognized that others pathed the way for her as well.
