DC Closes Non-Essential Businesses For A Month, Two Weeks After Easter

Welcome

WASHINGTON, DC - NOVEMBER 07: The sky turns to a fiery color as the sun begins to rise behind the U.S. Capitol building, on November 7, 2019 in Washington, DC. Donald Trump has said he wants to reopen the country soon, remarking, “I would love to have it opened by Easter.” But the Mayor of Washington DC just put a major kink in those plans by shutting down his city for the next month, well after Easter.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) wrote “As we continue working to blunt the curve, my message to the community is simple: Be a good neighbor, stay at home.”

While this isn’t a shelter-in-place order, it does mean that non-essential businesses will be closed. Whether that includes churches is unclear, as that varies per city. What is clear is it won’t be business as usual in the nation’s capital by Easter Day so Trump may not get his wish to “have packed churches all over our country.”

The Washington Post reports:

D.C. officials announced a third coronavirus death and 48 new infections Wednesday evening, the second consecutive day when cases spiked at a record rate.

The new cases include the youngest known person in the Washington region with the virus: an 8-week-old child.
