The Trump administration is getting some major pushback after tightening work requirements for participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). About 700,000 Americans now receiving food stamps will lose the benefit.

For Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) this decision really hits home. The Congresswoman wrote:

My family relied on food stamps (EBT) when my dad died at 48. I was a student. If this happened then, we might’ve just starved. Now, many people will. It’s shameful how the GOP works overtime to create freebies for the rich while dissolving lifelines of those who need it most.

And Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) added:

Trump is seeking to kick millions of families and children off food assistance.

Meanwhile, he’s preparing to send another $14 billion to big agribusinesses to offset the damage from his trade war.

His values are clear: Welfare for corporations. Hunger for American families.

While people with children, disabilities and those over 50 years old won’t be impacted, so many others will potentially go hungry. That includes some members of the military, struggling college students, those who have lost their jobs, recovering addicts and more. Countless people are sharing their own stories on social media.
