The Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine will be distributed again soon. Late Friday, the FDA lifted its pause on the vaccine. This came after a CDC advisory panel recommended resuming use of the vaccine. The vaccine was paused on April 13th after six people who received a dose suffered a rare blood clot. After the pause, more cases were discovered. The AP reports:

Out of nearly 8 million people vaccinated before the U.S. suspended J&J’s shot, health officials uncovered 15 cases of a highly unusual kind of blood clot, three of them fatal. All were women, most younger than 50. But advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday the vaccine’s benefits outweigh that serious but small risk

The Wall Street Journal adds:

J&J has agreed with the Food and Drug Administration to add language to the vaccine’s label warning about the -clot risk, J&J Chief Medical Officer Joanne Waldstreicher told members of the vaccine committee during its meeting.

Dr. Waldstreicher said resumption of vaccinations with J&J’s shot would likely prevent many more deaths and hospitalizations from Covid-19 than the number of rare clot cases that may occur in people receiving the vaccine.
