Rudy Giuliani can no longer practice law in the city where he was mayor.

On Thursday, a New York appellate court suspended Giuliani’s law license, finding that he made “demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump.”

In a 33-page decision, the court debunked many of the conspiracy theories Giuliani peddled after the 2020 presidential election. The Court said Giuliani’s conduct “threatens the public interest and warrants interim suspension from the practice of law, pending further proceedings before the Attorney Grievance Committee.”

Giuliani has not yet reacted to the news, but it’s a stunning fall from grace for a man who was once the top federal prosecutor in New York. After 9/11, Giuliani’s leadership earned him the nickname “America’s Mayor.” But he’s squandered his reputation on supporting Trump’s big lie.
