Tweeting to memorialize someone from their own account is one thing, but tweeting to make light of the virus that took their life is another. In what is being called a “Zombie” tweet, someone wrote this message on Herman Cain’s Twitter account Sunday.

The tweet was later deleted, but not without questions about why someone associated with the former presidential candidate would write such a thing.

While we have no confirmation of who actually crafted that tweet we do know that earlier this month, Cain’s daughter, Dr. Melanie Cain Gallo, wrote this on Cain’s website, “We’ve decided here at Cain HQ that we will go on using this platform to share the information and ideas he believed in.”

“The year 2020 has been so historic and tumultuous. My dad’s voice was so important in the midst of all this, and many people have commented to us in the past few days that it’s needed now more than ever. That’s why we’re going to bring you material every day from The Cain Gang while working to help more people find happiness, strength, and positivity in their lives through The Cain Leadership Institute. We are his team, and he’ll always be our leader. He would have wanted us to do this.”

W. Kamau Bell, host of the CNN series United Shades of America recently told Salon:

I am glad that Herman Cain is ghost-tweeting because it reminds us that he passed away and that Trump was responsible for his death. Trump had a rally, encouraged people not to wear masks, and now Herman Cain is dead – and he is supposed to be Trump’s friend. Trump does not even care about his dead friend.

Meanwhile, this morning, the new tweets on Cain’s account are being credited to the site’s editor, who is identified as Dan Calabrese.
