Joe Biden has won Georgia, that’s according to several media outlets who called the race Friday afternoon.

With 16 electoral votes, this brings Biden’s final total up to 306. Friday, Donald Trump also was declared the winner of North Carolina, so he ends up with 232 electoral votes.

CNBC writes that Biden is the first Democrat to win the Peach State since 1992.

Since 1972, the state has primarily backed Republican candidates, breaking only for southern Democrats Bill Clinton in 1992 and Georgia native Jimmy Carter in 1976 and 1980.

But growing demographic changes have contributed to Georgia’s shift into a battleground state.

Georgia’s Secretary of State announced that Georgia votes will be subject to a hand recount, but there is little to no chance that this will change the final outcome.
