Mother Jones: Jurors thought a gay man would enjoy prison. So they sentenced him to death.

This is a bizarre case. Mother Jones writes that jurors “needed to know what life in prison would be like for a gay man like Rhines. They wondered if he would be able to ‘create a group of followers or admirers’ or ‘brag about his crime to other inmates…or young men,’ or if he’d have a cellmate and be allowed conjugal visits.
