This timing is no coincidence. Senator Ron Johnson, the chair of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, is about to release a “report aimed at Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.” According to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, on Monday the Wisconsin Republican told a group of supporters on a conference call: “Stay tuned. In about a week we’re going to learn a whole lot more of Vice President Biden’s unfitness for office.”

The Minnesota Star Tribune adds:

Johnson has faced criticism from Democrats who say his investigation of Biden and Ukraine is politically motivated.

An anti-Biden narrative pushed by Trump and his supporters alleges that Biden, as vice president, pressured Ukraine’s government to fire its top prosecutor because the prosecutor had led an investigation into natural gas company Burisma, where Biden’s son Hunter had a paid board seat.

The Hill writes:

Andrew Bates, a spokesman for Biden’s campaign, said Monday that Johnson has “wasted months” amid the coronavirus pandemic “to subsidize a foreign attack against the sovereignty of our elections with taxpayer dollars.”

“An attack founded on a long-disproven, hardcore rightwing conspiracy theory that hinges on Sen. Johnson himself being corrupt and that the Senator has now explicitly stated he is attempting to exploit to bail out Donald Trump’s re-election campaign,” Bates added in a statement in a reference to Johnson’s latest comment.
