Vice President Pence caused a stir Tuesday when he abruptly cancelled a planned event and returned to the White House.

Pence was already on his way to Reagan National Airport when, a spokeswoman tweeted, “Something came up.”

The “something” was left unexplained.

But, reports CNN, “A senior White House official said the reason for Pence’s return to the White House ‘is not health related for the VP or President’ and is not ‘related to national security.’”

An official “close to the vice president” told CNN that there was no emergency, saying, “the VP was called back to the White House but no cause for alarm.”

Pence had been scheduled to fly to Manchester NH for a speech on the opioid crisis and a roundtable discussion with patients at the Granite Recovery Center.

Pence’s office says the appearance will be re-scheduled.
