The majority of Americans wanted to see Donald Trump convicted. According to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll, 58% of Americans believe the former president should have been convicted of inciting insurrection. 88% of Democrats and 64% of independents supported a conviction. ABC News writes:

The seven Republicans, who make up 14% of the GOP conference in the Senate, mirrors the 14% of Republicans nationwide who believe Trump should have been convicted and barred from holding future office in the poll.

But even with the majority of the country believing Trump incited a riot, many Republicans are digging in their heels to show their loyalty to the 45th president. After the siege on Capitol Hill, Senator Lindsey Graham appeared to be distancing himself from Trump saying “Count me out. Enough is enough.” But now he is back to full Trump sycophant mode. Vox writes:

If Graham’s Sunday morning appearance on Fox News Sunday is an indication, his loyalty to the former president is stronger than ever.

“Donald Trump is the most vibrant member of the Republican Party,” Graham said, distancing himself from former UN ambassador Nikki Haley’s comments about Trump not having a future in the GOP. “The Trump movement is alive and well … all I can say is that the most potent force in the Republican Party is President Trump.”
