Trump Pushes To Host Next G7 At His Miami Resort

Welcome

If you own a golf resort that is lagging, what better way to boost the bottom line than to force the leaders of the G7 and their enormous entourages to hold a meeting there. When the U.S. hosts the next G7 meeting in 2020, look for it to be at the Trump Doral resort in Miami. From The Washington Post:

In a news conference, Trump said that his staff had scoured the country and determined that — of all America’s resorts and resort towns — Trump’s club was the best situated to host the international meeting.

“They went places all over the country, and they came back and said, ‘This is where we’d like to be,’ ” Trump said. “It’s not about me. It’s about getting the right location.”

Trump said today in France that he didn’t care about making money and that a final decision hasn’t been made, but no other site is under consideration. Aides told the Post that Trump has pushed for months to have Doral host the event even though it raises obvious ethical issues.

Previously, The Washington Post has reported that Doral, has been losing money.

At Doral, which Trump has listed in federal disclosures as his biggest moneymaker hotel, room rates, banquets, golf and overall revenue were all down since 2015. In two years, the resort’s net operating income — a key figure, representing the amount left over after expenses are paid — had fallen by 69 percent.
