Unqualified Judicial Nominee Withdraws His Name

District court judge nominee Matthew Spencer Petersen appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Nov. 15, 2017.

District court judge nominee Matthew Petersen has taken his name out of consideration. In a letter to Donald Trump, Petersen wrote that his “nomination has become a distraction.” During questioning by the Senate Judiciary Committee last week, Petersen admitted that he had been present for fewer than five depositions, had never presided over a jury trial and had never argued a motion in state or federal court.
