Many people know of the story of the four young girls killed in the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in 1963. Not nearly as many know that the prosecutor that helped put two of their murderers away is now running against Roy Moore for the open senate seat in Alabama. While Moore dominates the headlines because of accusations of inappropriate behavior involving multiple teenage girls, his opponent has fallen into the background. Here’s why Doug Jones is more than just the “other guy” running for Jeff Sessions’s vacant senate seat.

A self-professed “Second Amendment guy,” Jones has said he wants to make sure only “law abiding citizens” have access to guns. Jones has also made it clear that much like the fight for civil rights, LGBTQ citizens deserve equal treatment under the law. His opponent was suspended from the State Supreme Court, for the second time, for defying the Supreme Court’s ruling on same sex marriage. Jones’s tax related policies are relatively moderate. He has also stood by current abortion laws.

The polls close at 7pm CST.  We will keep you updated.
