Beto O’Rourke’s latest strategy has Democrats divided. On MSNBC’s Morning Joe, the Texas politician took aim at Joe Biden, but in doing so also criticized Barack Obama. The former president is still the most popular Democrat in the country. Most Democrats would probably agree that the country did well under the previous administration, but O’Rourke seemed to tell a different story today saying:
“You cannot go back to the end of the Obama administration and think that that’s good enough. As much of a horror show as Trump has been, his racism, the disaster of his foreign policy, his punishment of farmers and workers here in this country, we had real problems before Donald Trump became president.”
“We cannot return to the past. We cannot simply be about defeating Donald Trump,” Beto O’Rourke tells @Morning_Joe.@WillieGeist: “So, is Joe Biden a return to the past?”

#MorningJoe Beto O’Rourke lost me when he started criticizing President Obama. President Obama has a high approval rating among African Americans and is held in high regard. Message to Beto that’s not the way to get our vote. You can step off the stairs now.

Beto’s getting knocked for this but I think Obama made similar comments about HRC in 2008. You sort of have to go after a rival’s perceived strength. https://t.co/uL1b9F9twM

Not smart. I wish Beto would just go away. President Obama’s presidency was not without mistakes and controversy. But many of his policies were thwarted by Republicans. Presidencies are not perfect . We need to defeat Trump. Beto not the answer
