The House has voted 232-196 on a resolution formalizing the impeachment inquiry today. But first members of Congress get a chance to air their thoughts. No words may be more important though than Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s. Standing next to an American flag she said:

“The genius of the Constitution — a separation of powers. Three co-equal branches of government to be a check and balance on each other. And it’s to that we take the oath of office.”

“So, what is at stake is our democracy. What are we fighting for? Defending our Democracy for the people.”

“I don’t know why Republicans are afraid of the truth. Every American should support allowing the American people to hear the facts for themselves. That is really what this vote is about.”
