James Mattis Takes Swipes At Donald Trump During Charity Dinner

Former Defense Secretary James Mattis is yet another administration official who Donald Trump now mocks.  But last night at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, Mattis had a chance to return the favor. Much of Mattis’ comedy bit focused on his former boss. And even though it was said in jest (we think), it’s the first time Mattis has really taken aim at the current administration in such a public way. He even had some fresh material. Just a day before Trump said Mattis was “the world’s most overrated general. You know why? He wasn’t tough enough.” Mattis’ reaction to this statement brought one of the biggest laughs of the night.

One of the other memorable moments came as Mattis made fun of Trump’s lack of military service. He joked “I earned my spurs on the battlefield. Donald Trump earned his spurs in a letter from a doctor.”
