President Joe Biden clearly seemed to enjoy his visit with Queen Elizabeth over the weekend. After meeting with the 95-year-old monarch, Biden remarked, “I don’t think she’d be insulted, but she reminded me of my mother in terms of the look of her and just the generosity… I said I wish we could stay longer.”

The New York Times writes, “The two traded stories of living in Windsor Castle and the White House and dealing with visits from the public, and they enjoyed tea with the first lady, Dr. Jill Biden.”

Biden first met the Queen back in 1982 when he was a senator.

Reuters adds, “Audiences with the queen are carefully choreographed events, with plenty of opportunities for gaffes. Biden’s visit appeared to proceed smoothly, unlike that of his immediate predecessor, who kept the queen waiting and walked ahead of her — both royal no-nos.”

There was a light moment earlier in the weekend as the Queen joined the leaders of the G7 for a photograph.

Sunday the first couple also surprised churchgoers as they attended services in Cornwall. The AP quotes Annie Fitzpatrick one of the surprised churchgoers:

“I think gobsmacked is probably a very true word… It’s quite amazing, we went into the church and they took some details from us and I thought this is a bit unusual… About 10 minutes into the service the doors opened up and President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden walked in and just sat in the pew just across from me.”
