Donald Trump’s niece Mary Trump called out Meghan McCain for avoiding an interview with her today on The View (watch above). Mary Trump was on the show promoting her new book The Reckoning: Our Nation’s Trauma and Finding a Way to Heal. The book reportedly examines “America’s national trauma, rooted in our history but dramatically exacerbated by the impact of current events and the Trump administration’s corrupt and immoral policies.” While some of the hosts alternate who interviews various guests, it was notable that the most political co-host sat this segment out and Trump’s niece made sure to point that out while talking about how she said Donald Trump used “racism as a platform.”

“This is an incredibly powerful platform and I think the more we talk openly about these things, it’s a shame that your colleague didn’t have the courage to come on and have this conversation with me, but I appreciate that you were all willing to take up these very difficult subjects because racism in my view is at the heart of everything that’s wrong in 21st century America.”

The Daily Beast points out, “The last time Mary Trump came face-to-face with McCain on The View just over a year ago, she pointedly shut down the conservative pundit for accusing her of “cashing in” on her family name. “Well, you’re entirely entitled to your opinion,” she said with a smile at the time.”

McCain is no stranger to controversy on the show. There is speculation that issues both behind and in front of the camera led her to resign earlier this summer. Though she says the decision was driven by her decision to live in Washington DC. Her last show is this Friday.
