Have we seen the last of the traditional political convention? If Monday night is any clue, the answer may be yes.
The Democrats virtual convention used the power of television to produce a much more compelling and interesting program than we’ve seen in years.
The two-hour event was sprinkled with stories from ”real voters” and as the Democrats might say, real victims of Donald Trump. The most powerful was the daughter of a man who died from coronavirus.
Kristen Urquiza, who lost her father to COVID-19: “My dad was a healthy 65-year-old. His only preexisting condition was trusting Donald Trump, and for that, he paid with his life.” https://t.co/NFCK2ZqNNI pic.twitter.com/FVpTzeFcs3

But the night belonged former first Michelle Obama. She delivered a heartfelt and emotional speech that showed she is one of the party’s strongest assets, despite the fact that she ”hates politics.” While she showed empathy for the current state of the country, she was brutal on Donald Trump, using his own words against him.
“Let me be as honest and clear as I possibly can. Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country. He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He cannot meet this moment … It is what it is.”
She also predicted a second Trump term could be worse than the first.
“If you think things cannot possibly get worse, trust me, they can, and they will if we don’t make a change in this election,” Obama said.
This is surely the first time a president’s wife has repudiated her husband’s core observation about American politics as outdated and incorrect https://t.co/9X2YHVJrDk
