Donald Trump’s Twitter feed is quieter than usual and there aren’t any mentions about the disappointing turnout for his latest rally. But there is a lot of information coming out about what happened behind the scenes. The New York Times reports:

“President Trump and several staff members stood backstage and gazed at the empty Bank of Oklahoma Center in horror.

Mr. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence had canceled plans at the last minute to speak at an outdoor overflow rally that was almost entirely empty, despite claims of nearly one million people registering for tickets to attend the event in Tulsa, Okla., and the president’s false boast of never having an empty seat at one of his events.

The president, who had been warned aboard Air Force One that the crowds at the arena were smaller than expected, was stunned, and he yelled at aides backstage while looking at the endless rows of empty blue seats in the upper bowl of the stadium, according to four people familiar with what took place.”

The fire marshall said just 6200 people showed up. The arena holds 19,000. The Washington Post adds:

On the flight to Tulsa, Trump was unhappy with television images of the sparse crowds and vacant seats. He continued to fume aboard Air Force One on the way back to Washington and on Sunday, according to officials with knowledge of the conversations who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

And while we aren’t hearing from the president regarding the turnout, they say a picture tells a thousand words. So perhaps the look on his face here says it all. This was Trump returning to the White House post-rally.

The Lincoln Project seized on Trump’s seemingly sour mood returning from Tulsa by putting together this video.

But it’s the video The Lincoln Project released Sunday that may sting more.
