In any other White House, if someone wrote of a plot within the administration to undermine the president, it would be considered fiction. But under Donald Trump, it doesn’t seem so far fetched. In a new book, former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley writes she was asked by two Trump aides to undermine the president and “save the country.”
Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and former White House chief of staff John Kelly tried to recruit her to, as The Washington Post writes, work around and subvert Trump. Haley writes in her new book that she refused.
“Kelly and Tillerson confided in me that when they resisted the president, they weren’t being insubordinate, they were trying to save the country,” Haley wrote.
“It was their decisions, not the president’s, that were in the best interests of America, they said. The president didn’t know what he was doing,” Haley wrote of the views the two men held.“
Haley also writes that Tillerson told her if Trump goes unchecked “people will die.”
A copy of the book, “With All Due Respect,” was obtained by The Washington Post. It is due to be released on Tuesday.
