Republicans have a problem. How do they explain to their constituents why they voted against (en masse) one of the most popular pieces of legislation in years? How popular is it beyond the beltway? A new national poll indicates an overwhelming 70% of U.S. adults back the $1.9 trillion legislation.

Even more telling, the new Pew Poll data says 41% of Republicans and right-leaning independent voters back the measure. Which makes the fact that not a single Republican in Congress – not one – voted in favor of the bill, a fact that was quite interesting to many, including Senator Bernie Sanders.

And regarding that whole bipartisan issue, the data shows the majority of Americans, 57% to be precise, think Biden made a good-faith effort to work with Republicans on the relief package. 42% of those surveyed thought the GOP attempted to work with their across-the-aisle adversaries in good faith, but 55% said Republicans did NOT negotiate in good faith.

The national survey by Pew Research Center was conducted on the Center’s nationally representative American Trends Panel March 1-7, 2021, with 12,055 adults participating.

Considering how popular the Biden Administration’s relief bill is turning out to be, the biggest losers may turn out to be the Republican legislators who all voted against it.
