Police in Houston say at least 8 concert goers died and dozens more were injured during a Travis Scott concert at the Astroworld Festival on Friday night. Watch coverage from The Today Show above.

CNN reports:

About 50,000 people were at the sold-out outdoor Astroworld Festival at NRG Park — the stadium complex where the Astrodome and the NRG Stadium stand — when the incident happened just after 9 p.m. CT, officials said.
Video from the event showed the performer on stage — rapper and event organizer Travis Scott — pause and look on in confusion as an ambulance with flashing lights moved into the densely packed crowd.

More than 300 people were treated at a field hospital set up near the event, according to CNN.

Scott is a Houston native and this is the third year of the event.  From NBC News:

“It was scary, like, genuinely,” one festivalgoer, Alleighya Odom, 21, told NBC News, adding that the tightly packed crowd “was like this force on my back, this continuous force.”

“I started looking around, and there’s people on the ground. There’s people looking at me, like, scared, eyes wild, like, ‘Please help me,'” she said. “There’s people behind me crying because they’re being stepped on.”
