Many have been working for Donald Trump for years.  But suddenly last week they were out of a job.  NBC spoke with twelve workers (watch above) who say they were fired from Trump National Golf Club in New York because they were in the country illegally. Over the weekend The Washington Post reported:

“On Jan. 18, about a dozen employees at Trump National Golf Club in Westchester County, N.Y., were summoned, one by one, to talk with a human resources executive from Trump headquarters.

During the meetings, they were fired because they are undocumented immigrants, according to interviews with the workers and their attorney. The fired workers are from Latin America.”

NBC writes:

“A longtime maintenance worker at Trump’s Westchester club, Gabriel Sedano, was among nine former workers interviewed by NBC News. He said he was the first in the group to find out he no longer had a job.’

“During the meeting, Sedano recalled, he was asked if he was in the United States legally.

“I told them no, so … after that they say so the company cannot keep you there,” he said. “I start crying because I told them — like, I’ve been working for so long.”

“The only thing I did wrong was work, work and work,” he added.”

Monday morning Eric Trump responded to NBC’s story on Twitter.

NBC adds: “The workers’ lawyer, Anibal Romero, said he asked federal authorities to examine the Westchester club’s hiring practices.”
