President Trump is furious after learning in a television interview that in 2017 two top law-enforcement officials discussed removing him from office. In a tweet, the president branded their behavior as “treasonous.”
Wow, so many lies by now disgraced acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe. He was fired for lying, and now his story gets even more deranged. He and Rod Rosenstein, who was hired by Jeff Sessions (another beauty), look like they were planning a very illegal act, and got caught.
There is a lot of explaining to do to the millions of people who had just elected a president who they really like and who has done a great job for them with the Military, Vets, Economy and so much more. This was the illegal and treasonous “insurance policy” in full action!
The Constitution defines treason against the United States as “levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.” Congress is given the power to punish those convicted of treason.
Trump was reacting to a “60 Minutes” interview with Andrew McCabe, the acting FBI director fired last year. McCabe said Deputy Attorney General Rod Roseinstein once offered to secretly record Trump, possibly to obtain evidence to support ousting the president.
Rosenstein, who plans to leave the Justice Department soon, denies he ever actually intended to follow through on the notion of wearing a wire in the White House.
But McCabe told “60 Minutes” interviewer Scott Pelley that in the “incredibly turbulent, incredibly stressful” days after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, Rosenstein brought up the idea more than once.
“I can’t characterize what Rod was thinking or what he was hoping at that moment,” McCabe said. “But the reason you would have someone wear a concealed recording device would be to collect evidence, and in this case, what was the true nature of the president’s motivation in calling for the firing of Jim Comey?”
McCabe said Rosenstein also brought up the idea of invoking the Constitution’s 25th Amendment, which empowers top officials in Congress and the Executive Branch to remove a president who is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
McCabe has been promoting his new book, “The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump,” which will be published on Tuesday.
CBS News says that in response to the interview, the Justice Department sent “a carefully worded statement” calling McCabe’s assertions “inaccurate and factually incorrect.”
McCabe told Pelley that memos he wrote after meetings with the president — memos written to ensure he “preserved” his recollections accurately — are now in the hands of special counsel Robert Mueller.
