The tanks that President Trump is so excited about seeing on the National Mall for tomorrow’s 4th of July celebration are having a hard time getting there.

Two Bradley Fighting Vehicles were parked near the Lincoln Memorial Wednesday morning, but the real heavyweight stars of Trump’s so-called “Salute to America” — massive, 60-ton Abrams M1A2 main battle tanks — were at least temporarily stuck, unable to get get under highway overpasses on their flatbed rail cars.

That hangup became a sensation on Twitter, with Trump critics reveling in the situation and aiming sarcastic comments, cartoons and videos at the president.

As one tweet put it: “More $$$ and for what? A grown man’s little boy fantasy.” Others were laced with 4-letter words.

Democratic lawmakers also weighed in on Twitter, denouncing the cost and nature of Trump’s plan.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) wrote that the $2.5 million in park fees being diverted to make it all happen “are for maintaining and upgrading our national parks, not a 4th of July military parade for wealthy donors and Republican party insiders.”

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) called the situation “shameful.”

But sure, let’s throw a taxpayer-funded rally so Trump can brag about the President’s military power while @SenateGOP continues to block funds to pay medical costs for 9/11 first responders,” he tweeted sarcastically.

According to the Washington Post, Menendez was referring to legislation to renew the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund. The Post noted that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has said the Republican-led chamber is working to pass the bill by August.

As for Trump, in yet another tweet, he promised Thursday’s event will be “the show of a lifetime!”
