Yet another subscription service is coming for American consumers.

Best Buy Beta will offer free installation, extended warranties, and unlimited tech support for $200 a year ($180 if you have a Best Buy credit card). Notably, the tech support – from the Geek Squad – covers products not purchased at Best Buy.

Other perks include free shipping with no minimums, a 60-day extended return window, and exclusive member pricing.

Best Buy Beta is a limited pilot program that is currently available in Iowa, Oklahoma and eastern Pennsylvania. In May, it will expand to select stores in Minnesota, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Best Buy – the country’s 13th largest retailer, according to the National Retail Federation – is following a subscription service path blazed by its competitors. Bloomberg explains:

Subscription services, pioneered by Amazon, are a growing part of retailers’ efforts to lock in their customers by offering perks such as free and expedited shipping and other benefits. Amazon, for example, uses its streaming video offering to help keep customers paying for the $119-per-year service. Walmart’s new Walmart+ program offers gas discounts and might eventually include financial services through the retailer’s new fin-tech startup.

Best Buy Beta’s inclusion of installation and tech support underscores the retailer’s effort to position itself as the go-to source for tech gadgets and electronics. Michael Baker, a retail analyst at Davidson & Co., told CNN that the new service targets customers who “have more devices and technology in their home, but have trouble understanding it all and need help.”
