In contrast to President Trump, his presumptive opponent is urging local school make their own decision on when it will be safe to return to school. Joe Biden wrote, “If we do this wrong, we will put lives at risk and set our economy and our country back,.” The Washington Post writes:

Biden urged caution, saying that each district should make its own decisions based on local conditions, and that schools in areas with high infection rates should not reopen too soon. He also called on Congress to pass new emergency funding to help the schools.

Biden also said the lack of clarity from Washington is paralyzing local schools, according to the Post.

Biden also called on Congress to pass a $30 billion aid package to “support building upgrades and sanitation protocols ahead of students’ return to onsite learning,” according to NPR.

Donald Trump and his Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos have Not only pushed for all schools to be open for in-person instruction, but threatened to cut federal funding for those that don’t. Some larger school districts, such as Los Angeles, have countered by opting for online instruction only in the fall, despite the administration’s wishes.
